ITIN mismatch

Q. We received a W-9 from one of our vendors and when I ran a TIN match on the IRS website, it came back as "Code 2 - TIN Entered is not currently issued." This vendor provided her name and her ITIN. We always run a TIN match on the IRS website before setting up new vendors in our financial system, but the vendor is stating the tax ID is an ITIN.
