Record retention period

Q. I was at the Spring conference and heard several times that we should be expanding our record retention length to 15 years instead of 7 years. Each of these discussions were high level and said in passing with no IRS regulations sited. I have looked around the IRS page to confirm this new requirements and was unsuccessful.
