Is a physical W-9 required, or is an image acceptable?

Q. The Company that I work for requires a completed w-9 from the supplier/vendor.¬†We perform a TIN Match in the IRS system before we set up a supplier. My tax dept says that the IRS has its own rules that are applicable with respect to signatures for IRS Forms, including the IRS Form W-9 and applicable IRS Forms W-8. Accordingly, we need to follow those rules for any IRS Forms. The company is not currently set up with an e-signature validation system that meets the IRS standards, so we are not…
