Q. A $100,000 check to settle a worker's comp claim is made out to both the plaintiff and the attorney. Since it's injury-related, the plaintiff doesn't get a 1099. The attorney receives $18,000 of the check. Should I report $100,000 or $18,000 to the attorney in Box 10 of Form 1099-MISC? A.
