Q. Our organization is a public university. Once our University files a 1099-C to the student and the IRS for a student account that is over $600.00, can the University still collect payment in the future either by a personal payment or a debt offset payment? Or once a 1099-C is issued to the student are we no longer allowed to collect on the amount that was stated on the 1099-C? A.
