Q. Are the CSV templates used for electronic filing universal?

The CSV data templates which the IRS provides within the IRIS Portal electronic filing system are only for use with IRS IRIS direct filing. Also note that each of the IRIS CSV templates is specific to a specific type of Form 1099 (a template to fill in for 1099-NEC forms; a different template to fill in for 1099-MISC forms; etc.).
