Invoice showing only DBA name

Q. We received a W-9 showing a vendor's legal name and a DBA name. When we verify through the IRS, only the legal name works with the TIN. The problem is that the invoice ONLY shows the DBA name. How should we proceed? I feel the invoice needs to state the legal name since that is the name that works with the IRS. If we set up under the legal name and the invoice does not indicate the legal name anywhere on the invoice, how would we know they were related?
