Sales tax charged on a portion of copier rental

Q. We rent several copiers from a vendor; up until a few months ago, their invoices would charge sales tax on the total of the monthly rental plus the overages. Recently, the vendor changed this and is charging the sales tax on only 45% of the rental and overages. The resulting tax amount is less than before.
