Vendor W-9 Doesn't Match TIN Records Due to Name Change: Should You Wait to Pay?

Q. We have to set up a new vendor in our system. They sent us a W-9, but when we did a TIN match, their EIN does not match IRS records. They said it does not match because they are changing names and they are still waiting on the IRS to send them official confirmation of the name change. They sent the paperwork to the IRS in May. They said we could set them up under their old name and then change it to the new name once they get confirmation, but I do not want to do that. I believe they will be…
