Q. If an entity is stating they are a federal entity and proves it with their W-9, is that sufficient for tax exemption? A. (Answered by IOFM's third-party tax expert) Yes. You are not required to do further verification beyond what they put on their W-9. Some organizations do want to perform additional verification, such as searching on the Secretary of State website, etc. However, this is not required.
