Q. I have always put the letters DBA in front of the business name that is om line 2 of the W-9 e.g., John Doe DBA ABC Company. Is this necessary for 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms when filing with IRS? A. (Answered by IOFM’s third-party tax experts) The name as the payee furnished it on Form W-9 should be used.  If the payee uses both Name lines on the W-9, you'd use them (including DBA if that's on the W-9) but not add anything.  95053
