Q. I need clarification regarding if we as a law firm need to process 1099S forms and request W9 forms for real estate transactions. We are not the settlement agent. The funds were placed into escrow from the Buyer for a real estate transaction. We then wired the funds. We (the law firm) have them complete a certification, authorization and information sheet.
