What to Do When a Vendor's SSN Fails TIN Matching

Q. We have one vendor whose TIN was rejected due to mismatch. I tried using his middle name and just legal first name and last name, but it is still rejected. What should we do in this case? The vendor is filing as individual using SSN.

You have two options:
Technically, you could choose to do nothing and just go with what the vendor put on the W-9. Usage of the TIN matching system is optional, and there is no specific requirement to “do”…
