The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers various e-News subscriptions to keep the public and specific groups informed about tax-related matters. These subscriptions are organized by audience, covering general topics like tax tips, news releases, and technical guidance. Specialized content is available for tax professionals, payroll professionals, businesses, employee plans, and government entities, addressing areas like tax law changes, scams, industry-specific updates, and compliance requirements.
What Are IRS e-News Subscriptions?
IRS e-News subscriptions are free electronic newsletters distributed by the IRS to provide timely updates and information to various audiences either by email or text message. Subscribers can choose from general or specialized newsletters tailored for their profession and duties. They even offer these subscriptions in Spanish. They are offered based on topics and sub-topics and some content may overlap across multiple subscriptions.
For the AP or Vendor Teams that handle tax reporting for vendor payments, these e-News subscription topics and sub-topics can provide information on e-filing, deadlines, requirements. They can also benefit from receiving content on tax scams and other IRS information related to avoiding tax scams.

Review each of the available subscriptions and what content they offer so you don’t miss out on opportunities provided by the IRS in one topic, while removing a resource from another topic.
Consider this example of two separate IRS e-News subscription topics:
Announced FIRE system target retirement date that partially stated:
“Tax Year 2026/Filing Season 2027 is the target date for the retirement of the Filing Information Returns Electronic (FIRE) system. FIRE will not be available for submissions in Filing Season 2027. The Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) will be the only intake system for information returns currently received through FIRE.”
Announced next IRIS 101 Meeting with a link to register that partially stated:
“We are excited to invite all new users and anyone needing a refresher to a working group session that will provide an overview of the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS). This meeting is designed to help you understand the new features and guide you step-by-step on how to effectively use the system or transition from Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE).”
Each of these notifications provided timely information on their own, but taken together, it delivered an important change that the FIRE system would be retired, and a workshop on how to use the IRIS system that would replace it.
