State Information Reporting in the IRIS Era: Closing the Gaps Before Filing Season

Tuesday, November 10, 2026 | 3:00pm - 4:00pm Eastern Time | Free Webinar

Your federal filing may be complete. Your state reporting may not be. Separate state submissions can still be required, even when information has been reported to the IRS.

With tax year 2026 information reporting moving from FIRE to IRIS for the 2027 filing season, now is the time to look beyond federal readiness. For teams managing reporting across multiple entities, business units, and source systems, that means answering some important questions: Which states require a separate submission? Will existing files meet their requirements? And who is responsible for tracking filings, resolving rejections, and managing corrections across jurisdictions?

Join Tax1099 for a practical discussion on state information reporting in the IRIS era. We will examine how the federal transition intersects with state filing systems, where the Combined Federal/State Filing program fits, and when direct state filing requires additional action from your team.

Moving beyond the regulatory updates, this session will explore how to assess your current processes and provider coverage, identify gaps, and coordinate federal and state reporting without adding unnecessary manual work.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how the FIRE to IRIS transition intersects with state reporting, including changes to file formats, data requirements, and submission of workflows.
  1. Distinguish combined federal/state filing coverage from direct state filing obligations, identifying when additional state action may be required.
  1. Identify operational gaps across entities and systems, including fragmented data, unclear ownership, and limited visibility into filing status.
  1. Evaluate internal processes and provider capabilities for state coverage, submission tracking, rejection handling, and corrections.
  1. Prioritize readiness actions before filing season, including validating data, confirming responsibilities, and establishing a coordinated federal and state filing plan.
